This movie is the first
movie in a trilogy called 'America the Land of Opportunity' by Danish
director Lars von Trier. It has an interesting bare set design which
makes the viewer focus on the story and the characters - there are no
walls or doors on the houses, everything is drawn in chalk outlines.
Set during the depression, a young woman named Grace is on the run from
gangsters and finds herself in a fictional town called Dogville. She is
accepted by the townsfolk and allowed to stay there until her presence
begins to pose a danger to the town. Jeremy Davies skillfully plays
Bill Henson, a dim young resident of Dogville who hopes to become an
engineer.
